6 Essential Items You Will Need On Your Move In Day

Moving to a new home sure brings a whole new meaning to the word stress. There is a whole lot of things to organise, manage and constantly check, that it will make your head spin. Even if the removal process is assisted by professionals, you will still find yourself pre-occupied and often times overwhelmed.

Amidst all this turmoil, it can be easy to forget that you will need a few essential items when you get to the new place. Packing your other belongings and safely transporting them might have taken all of your attention. But know this: packing a few essential items can really save you a ton of stress and anxiety during the move.

Here is what you need to consider for your essentials kit on your move-in day:

Beddings

Clean pillows and bedding

Pack away a set of clean linens to use when you get to your new home. Make the bed with them. You will appreciate this after an exhausting moving process. A freshly made bed, ready for your good night’s rest will make all the difference. You will be thanking yourself in the morning.

Some cleaning supplies

If you have access to the new place before your moving day, you will do well to clean the area. But even so, it won’t hurt having a few cleaning supplies at hand when you move in. You can expect some dirt tracked in during the moving process, as movers come and go with your belongings. There is just no way for the place to remain clean. And if, for some reason, you don’t have access to the new place, that is all the more reason to get some sponges, soap, paper towels, an all-purpose cleaner, broom and dustpan as well as some rags. At the very least, you can clean the areas where major appliances and furniture pieces will sit, since that is the last chance you will get in a while.

A flashlight

If there is trouble with electricity, the last thing you want is to be doing a move in when it is dark. That is why you need a flashlight. Besides, even if there is electricity, you might not have lightbulbs everywhere, or even light fixtures installed. It is best to have a flashlight at hand.

A toolkit

Now, you probably won’t be hanging pictures on the first day of the move in. However, you may be doing some furniture assembly. It is a good idea to prepare a small toolkit and keep that with you. You never know when you are going to need a hammer and pliers, for example.

Device Chargers

Device chargers

The last thing you want is to be left without a phone/tablet/laptop. Your move may take longer than expected, and the batteries of your devices are not going to hold up forever. It is best to keep those charges handy, since you will need them at some point.

Water and some snacks

You can probably go to a local supermarket and grab some food there, but you will much rather have some snacks in place, just in case. You will also do well to pack some bottled water, since you will get pretty quickly and having some refreshment nearby can be important. Consider some grab and go snacks, like fruits and protein bars for giving yourself that burst of energy to power through the moving process

These are just a few of the important essentials you have to consider for your move in day. Make sure you keep them around!
